About Chaakri

Chaakri is Sa-Ni-Sa’s first brand of several products. It was launched in 2005 to promote the sale of home-made delicacies. Chaakri signifies ‘seva’ and ‘service’ in Hindi language. Under the brand Chaakri, Sa-Ni-Sa aims to promote entrepreneurship for women who specialize in products that taste like home-made food.

Starting with a single type of Khakhra, Sa-Ni-Sa has today expanded the product range to include a wide variety of flavors and a few other food items that retail at high-end stores and supermarkets across the country.

All the products for Chaakri are made by trained rural women in Sudhagad district, Maharashtra. Sa-Ni-Sa adheres to stringent quality assurance processes at its manufacturing facility. Lab testing is done to ensure quality and the product range is compliant with the statutory food grade packaging norms and licensing requirements.

The products are nurtitious and healthy with minimal use of oil and ghee. The biggest testimonial for quality of Chaakri products is that India’s leading hospitals including “The Asian Heart Institute” and “Jupiter Multi-specialty Hospital” have included our products in their diet for patients.

About Shruti

A post graduate from NMIMS University with a degree in Human Resource Management, she opted to channelize her skills and education to bring about a change in the lives of the less-privileged. Having worked as Assistant Vice President (AVP) with the Business Research arm of JP Morgan Chase, India for almost 9 years, she brought with her a wealth of management experience and professional expertise. “Empowering lives” is her aspiration; and she has made a humble beginning by working with the less-privileged women at Rajnagar, Parli.

Beginnings

At Chaakri we produce khakhras, engaging a lot of tribal women from Sudhagadh District( one of the remote areas in Maharashtra). When Sanisa started Chaakri there were 3 categories of jobs available for women:

  1. Illegal trades e.g. liquor shops
  2. Construction site worker
  3. Temporary jobs, with low wages that had no guarantee of income for the next day.

The days on which they did not have jobs, they would starve. Sanisa therefore created a platform that would give them sustainable livelihood as well as dignity of work.

Having Fun

Chaakri celebrates birthdays of these women every month. When Team Sanisa realized that most of these women did not even know when their birthday was, they decided to make each one feel special by celebrating these women. Every year the team engages in activities that increases camaraderie and gives them exposure to picnics, malls, and movies etc. This adds value to their life and inspires confidence in them.

Welfare

Sanisa has a number of staff welfare activities like, taking care of their hygiene and medical needs, providing them with opportunity where they can pursue education and also provide funding for their children’s education.
